2019 Honda Ridgeline Review

The Honda Ridgeline is a midsize, crew-cab pickup truck that has a starting price just under $30,000. It’s the only pickup that Honda makes and as the only child in its line, it’s spoiled silly with plenty of nice touches, such as the in-bed trunk, and upgrade options, including all-wheel drive and Honda Sensing.

2019 Honda Ridgeline pricing

The least expensive new 2019 Ridgeline is just shy of a $30,000 manufacturer recommended price (MSRP). That is for the base trim level of the vehicle with no added options. For a decked-out Ridgeline of the highest trim, the MSRP is over $13,000 more, at $43,420, although it could go even higher if you choose to add accessories. The MSRPs outlined below are accurate as of the date of publishing.

Trims RT Sport RTL RTL-T RTL-E Black Edition
MSRP $29,990 $33,390 $34,870 $37,000 $41,920 $43,420

You don’t necessarily have to pay MSRP for the vehicle. You may be able to get if for a lower price if you shop around. You could check out an industry guide — Kelley Blue Book or NADAguides — to find a fair purchase price for the Ridgeline, or any other vehicle you’re thinking about, in your area.

What’s next? Once you have a vehicle in mind, the next thing most people need is a vehicle loan. Car dealers can raise customer APRs, so be sure to apply directly from lenders for an auto loan. Potential lenders could include Honda financing, your bank, credit union or online lender. You could also fill out an online form at LendingTree to receive up to five potential auto loan offers at once.

2019 Honda Ridgeline safety

The 2019 Honda Ridgeline earned a 5 out of 5-star crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). In tests done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the 2019 Ridgeline got top marks in all categories but one: the ease of use for child safety seat anchors, for which it earned an “acceptable.” The IIHS chose it as a Top Safety Pick in 2018.

Honda Sensing, which comes standard on the top two trims of the 2019 Ridgeline or as an available extra on the rest, includes:

  • Collision Mitigation Braking System. If the truck senses it is about to run into something front-first, it will apply the brakes for you.
  • Road Departure Mitigation System. If the Ridgeline begins to cross a lane without the turn signal on, it can brake and steer to help keep it in the lane and not leave the road.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow. The Ridgeline can follow behind another car at a set interval.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System. The truck can adjust its steering to help keep itself in a lane.

2019 Honda Ridgeline trim comparison

There are six trims available on the 2019 Ridgeline, from the base RT to the Black Edition.

Trims RT Sport RTL RTL-T RTL-E Black Edition
MSRP $29,990 $33,390 $34,870 $37,000 $41,920 $43,420
Standard Features V6 Engine, In-Bed Trunk, Dual-Action Tailgate Fog Lights, Tri-Zone Climate Control Leather-Trimmed Interior, Moonroof, Heated Front Seats Navigation, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto AWD, Honda Sensing, Premium Audio Leather Interior, Black Edition Styling

In the same way that Honda does not allow customization of cab type and bed length, it also generally does not allow buyers to pick and choose upgrade features à la carte. For example, if you would like to have a moonroof, you cannot buy the RT trim and add a moonroof to it — you would have to get a trim that already has it, which would be the RTL trim and up. You can add some accessories à la carte, such as different wheels, but you may not be able to add a specific feature you’d like. Some buyers find this system of vehicle upgrades and options to be less complicated than what other automakers offer; other buyers find it to be restrictive.

2019 Honda Ridgeline competitor comparison

It can be hard to compare apples-to-apples when discussing pickups because there are so many variations of cab type, bed length, creature comforts and capability. Note that the Ridgeline, unlike competitors, does not allow customers to change the type of cab or the length of the truck bed. It only comes with a crew cab and a truck bed length of 64 inches. A certain pickup may or may not be a competitor to the Rideline, depending on what a person wants in a truck. To narrow it down, we selected competitor models within the price range of $25,000 to $30,000 base MSRP.

Fuel economy is combined city / highway mileage as defined by the EPA.

2019 Honda Ridgeline — the bottom line

You might like this vehicle if you’re looking for a pickup to provide a comfortable ride and has some car-like amenities, including a lockable storage space beneath the truck bed, which Honda calls an in-bed trunk. You might not like the Ridgeline if you want greater towing capacity and a different choice of cab and bed sizes.
